One thing my sibling Ashley told me that is by far some of the best advice yet is that smiling and laughing are for sure a plus. Happy people are healthy people. I saw a statistic today that said that 60% of people who are depressed are also obese or over weight. Smiling or having a good laugh can do so much for the body. To quote Legally Blonde, "exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy". Now that I've lost all of my credibility I am going to tell you one thing that made me smile today. I stepped on the scale and guess what...I have lost 5 pounds since Monday! How about that for something to smile about :)
One thing that I think works is tricking your body into thinking that you're having fun as opposed to working out. Working out can hurt sometimes (trust me), but if you're doing something that you enjoy like dancing to music that makes you happy then why not do it. Last night for example I popped in my Britney Spears CD, wondering which one...I'll tell you. Her third self titled album Britney with all sorts of songs to dance to and by the second song I had already worked up a sweat and was having a blast while doing it. I love Britney Spears and if she can assist in me getting my booty in shape, why not?
So far today has been a little rough. I had surgery in January on my back and it has been bothering me a lot lately so I am going to a specialist reffered to by my doctor on Wednesday to see what he suggests so as far as working out today I think I am going to keep it pretty minimal, but I'm sure that I will throw some dancing in because it's fun and it makes me happy. The best thing to do when you don't feel good is to try to concentrate on other things and remain in a good place. Hopefully in a week when I hop on that scale there will be another 5 pounds gone. How cool would that be? In the meantime I'm going to keep my energy and thoughts up.
Just out of curiosity, do you weigh yourself every day? Do you think you will get discouraged by future results if you were check it every day? I think that is a huge fear of mine. I am always afraid of getting on a scale and seeing if I have gained old weight back or to see that I haven't lost any.
ReplyDeleteI will say that it is a fear of mine and yes I have been weighing myself everyday. I also do it about the same time everyday, once in the morning when I wake up, once when I get home and once before I go to bed. Don't get discouraged. The change has to happen at some time and when you do see the numbers go down it seems to be pretty encouraging.
ReplyDeleteIn the 80's, rhythmic aerobic exercise programs were very popular. There were many videos sold. Almost every gym offered classes. It was an exercise craze taking America by storm. I think the reason that people stuck with the programs as long as they did, and the reason they were so popular was the fun factor. People listened to music they enjoyed, danced to routines and cleared their head. This was good for cardiovascular health and was successful in establishing weight loss and toning. The results motivated people but the fun kept them doing it. Exercise is so much easier to do when you can enjoy it and have some fun!
ReplyDeleteI thought about this the other day, I know that in the mid 90's there was Cindy Crawford's aerobecise and I kept thinking that Olivia Newton John also had something. Do you know?
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe she did. There certainly were a lot of those types of exercise programs out there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't forget Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons. Sweating to the Oldies was a big seller for Simmons.
Haha! He's always shiny and crying lol.
